Could This App Replace Notion?
Skiff Notes is a great, secure Google replacement, but can it compare with Notion?
It’s common to see “privacy-focused” apps that look like they were designed by someone who’s never used an interface other than command line. It’s one of the defects of the field: engineers don’t tend to make good graphical user interfaces, nor do they make good choices about general presentation.
Skiff aims to change people’s perception of what a privacy-focused ecosystem can look like. Though only a few years old, their company already boasts one of the most comprehensive alternatives to Google’s suite around.
Yet, Skiff clearly intends to go farther. Their “Skiff Notes” app is a clear clone of the popular Notion application’s interface and note-taking structure.
I’ve spent years reviewing privacy-focused and secure apps, in a desperate search for alternatives to the frequently breached corporate options, so Skiff is pretty exciting. But how does it really stack up?
Notion
I use Notion because it offers two important things: a totally free student/educator “professional” subscription, and incredibly powerful database integration.
