Hi Jean, thanks for reading!

I think you bring to light something really important: what is the purpose of storytelling? Certainly, there's a deep discussion to be had about what makes something worthwhile, but one of the points to consider, I believe, is "does this bring something better into the world?" That might mean many different things -- it could be a dark tale, like Game of Thrones but have unique storytelling with pushes art in a positive direction; or a dark series could use its heavy themes to explore the problems faced by the modern world, or by humanity as a whole. There is a danger, too, in creating something which falls into the arena of "entertainment" and ceases to actively introspect; we need self-reflexive art, art which helps its viewer or reader consider the world in deeper ways. So it's a balancing act, but ultimately, I err on the side of stories which uplift and, through the celebration of love, hope, and community, provide both an antidote and an alternative worldview to those based in fear.
