In a certain sense, this makes me miss the hayday of video stores even more — when content could be locally sourced (of course the concept of the experience is its own topic). But, honestly, what this comes down to for me is just finding DVD copies of my favorite series (probably used) to build my own library (which will ultimately be cheaper. Then retaining a subscription to, probably, Netflix, because they seem to be (as your article states) producing the majority of the new interesting content.
Generally, it just seems like the better move (if one has the financial means and literal space to do so) to just get DVD copies of all the old material which these big companies are trying to capitalize on.
